Fertility: It all starts from planting a healthy seed.
When talking about the Dick Diet I am often times talking about the quality and quantity of boners, but seldom do I talk about an added benefit that is just as important for some men: fertility. A healthy male body should be a manufacturing, storage and transportation facility for sperm. Some men are frustrated and distraught because they can’t get their wives pregnant. Often times women are the ones being treated for infertility when more times than not it is the man who is “shooting blanks”. The Dick Diet can be followed by any man or couple that is trying to get pregnant and conceive the happy and healthy baby of their dreams. There are many foods that promote sperm health, increase sperm count, motility and volume. A man’s diet impacts his fertility and what’s even more fascinating is that a man’s diet affects the embryo, development, pregnancy outcome and even body fat of his offspring.
Imagine your sperm are prized thoroughbred race horses ready to compete in the annual highly attended Kentucky Derby. Would you want to feed those prized race horses red and processed meats, refined grains, pizza, snacks, junk food, high-energy drinks, sweets, soda and donuts? Or would you want to feed them a nutrient-dense diet of fruits, vegetable, nuts, seeds, beans, legumes and other high quality proteins?
Research has shown that there are foods that increase a man’s chances of conceiving a healthy offspring, while other foods actual impair his fertility and pass on nutritional deficiencies and inherited genetic weaknesses to his baby-to-be.
First lets define what quantifies healthy sperm and indicators of fertility:
· Sperm count. The concentration of sperm cells in a given “sample”.
· Sperm Morphology: This refers to the average size and shape of sperm cells in a “sample”.
· Sperm motility: Motility refers to movement. A man wants healthy active swimmers that can, not only battle other sperm, but swim fast and hard to reach and fertilize the egg.
· Semen volume: A healthy volume of semen is required to carry sperm cells through the female reproductive tract.
Nutrients that increase sperm quality:
Zinc: Pumpkin Seeds, oatmeal, raw cacao (dark chocolate), beans and legumes such as chickpea and lentils.
Selenium: Brazil Nuts, brown rice, sunflower seeds, oatmeal and spinach.
Folate: Green leafy vegetables, specifically spinach.
Omega 3 Fatty Acids: Flax seeds, chia seeds, hemp seeds, walnuts, sardines and wild caught salmon.
Antioxidants: Foods rich in antioxidants such as vitamin C, A and E help protect sperm from cellular damage and keep them strong and speedy. Racing through fallopian tubes is no joke and those little fuggers need all the stamina they can get in order to reach and fertilize the egg.
Vitamin E: Nuts, seeds, avocado and broccoli.
Vitamin C: Abundant in fruits, vegetables and leafy greens. Oranges, tomatoes, grapefruits, broccoli, brussels sprouts and cabbage.
**My research has shown me that there is one delicious and versatile food that contains a trifecta of nutrients for sperm quality: sweet potatoes. Sweet Potatoes contain vitamin C, E and folate making them a fertility superfood.
Herbs and Superfoods
Many of the herbs and superfoods that I have written about in previous blog posts that have been proven to boost testosterone are also known for increasing fertility. The following are herbs that can be found in powder, pill or capsule form and are celebrated for increasing sperm count, motility and morphology.
· Raw Cacao
· Ginseng
· Fenugreek
· Maca
· Ashwaganda
· Avena Sativa
Foods that a man should avoid:
· Alcohol
· Soy
· Caffeinated drinks:
· High mercury fish: Swordfish, king mackerel, tilefish, marlin, bigeye tuna, orange roughie and shark are all considered to have high mercury content.
· Fried Foods
· Dairy
· Environmental toxins
Minimize your chemical exposure:
Toxins in our food such as chemical fertilizers and pesticides as well as additives, preservatives and coloring agents can wreak havoc on a man’s endocrine system. These toxins can contribute to low testosterone and sluggish non-active active sperm that do not replicate in necessary volume. In addition, toxicity can be passed on to the child and manifest in the way of developmental disabilities and childhood diseases. By following the Dick Diet a man can ensure that he will perform well in bed, impregnate his partner and pass on a healthy offspring.
You can ensure you are limiting your chemical exposure by drinking purified water, buying organic fruits and vegetables and switching out the cleaning products in your home. Remove the cleaning products in your home that contain harsh chemicals and replace them with cleaning products that are chemical-free and natural made of natural ingredients.
What else can a man do to boost fertility naturally:
Get quality restorative sleep
Exercise
Yoga
Engaging in activities that bring you joy
Getting plenty of sunshine
Putting the Dick Diet into practice for best results:
Try incorporating a green smoothie into your diet every day. The fruits will be high in Vitamin C and antioxidants while the green leafy vegetable will be high in folate. Green smoothies are a great way to include a wide variety of leafy greens that you may not otherwise eat, such as kale, chard or parsley, into your diet in a creative and delicious way. I have a green smoothie every morning which I also include bended nuts and seeds such as almonds, pumpkin seeds, flax seeds, chia seeds and hemp seeds. Eat a salad every day. I don’t mean a side salad, I mean a garden in a bowl loaded with fruits, veggies, sprouts, nuts, seeds, bean, legumes dried fruits and any additional quality proteins of your choosing. When you’re in need of a snack skip the candy bar, donut or potato chips and instead munch on some fruit, trail mix, nuts or vegetables such as carrots sticks, cucumbers or crunchy bell peppers.
Supplement as needed:
Take the information in this post and seek out what herbs, superfoods and supplements best suite your diet and lifestyle. If you are already sticking to a nutrient-dense whole food regimen than anything taken additionally would be to compliment your healthy and balanced lifestyle. In addition to incorporating an abundance of fresh, raw fruits, vegetables, nuts and seeds into my diet I also take the following herbs and supplements: ashwagandha, rhodiola, avena sativa, vitamin D, bee pollen and maca root. I have found that this combination keeps my testosterone levels high and my reproductive organs healthy. You may experiment and find other things work better for you. I encourage everyone to continually explore their bio-individuality.
Cheers to better boners!
